Who should attend this training: Anyone who works with or supervises staff who works with trauma survivors; socials services, housing and homeless services, community based services, domestic violence services. 3.5 training hours.

Description: This workshop will provide basic information on what trauma is and how it impacts people, either directly or indirectly. Participants will receive tools and information on how to address their own secondary trauma as providers, and to create trauma-informed environments in their programs. This is an entry-level, community based approach and does not address clinical settings or clinical modalities for trauma treatment.

• Definitions, sources, research
• Basic overview of trauma impacts on the brain
• Adverse childhood experiences and life-long outcomes
• Common experiences of trauma survivors
• Survival skills/coping mechanisms
• Basic components of Trauma-Informed Care
• Ideas for implementing Trauma-Informed Care
 
Learning Objectives:
• To understand what trauma is and how it impacts people, including self
• To understand the importance of caring for self while caring for others
• To understand steps and practical tools to support implementing trauma-informed care practices in programs and organizations
