The winter holiday season is an especially difficult time for many families living in poverty, as parents feel pressure to create a festive atmosphere while still struggling to meet basic needs. Our Holiday Giving programs support adults and children fleeing domestic violence, giving them access to much needed resources. These donations are also sources of hope and joy during a time when those feelings are often in short supply.

Please help us making the holiday season special for families fleeing domestic violence.

The Holiday Gift Center

Each year we create a winter wonderland shopping area in our basement we call The Holiday Gift Center. The week before Christmas we provide an opportunity for the adults and children living in our shelter to “shop” for new items for their family members from the donations given by the community. The first day the kids select items for their parent and siblings, and the second day the parents shop for their children. We also have a third shopping day for former shelter residents, and clients using our other services. Please visit our Facebook page starting in November for the top 12 most needed items for the Holiday Gift Center. In addition to holiday gifts, we also need gift wrapping supplies (wrapping paper, gift bags, bows, ribbon, gift tags and tape.)

Your donation of new, unwrapped, non-violent gift items and wrapping supplies can be dropped off directly to the YWCA during business hours: Monday-Thursday 8:30am-5:30pm, Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.

2017 Deadline: Friday, December 15th

We know teens can be hard to shop for; that's often why we receive so few teen-related items for our Holiday Gift Center. We've made shopping for our teens a little easier by creating a detailed list of items they're wishing for this holiday season.

Adopt A Family
Would you prefer to connect with a specific family? Generous community members and organizations adopt YWCA families that are struggling to make ends meet during the Holiday Season. These are families that have left our shelter in the last year, used our Legal Services or have been attending our Support Groups. They fill out applications that include a wish list for each member of the family. Over 60 families are adopted each year!

Adopt A Family placements begin in November.

Holiday Volunteering
Another way you can give back this holiday season is by volunteering at YWCA Pierce County. Throughout December, we need volunteers like you to support survivors and their families during the holiday season. Each year, we serve over 250 adults and children through our holiday giving programs and we couldn't do it without the amazing support of our volunteers.
